Stewart Waters has been Constable Kenny Koala’s handler for the last 15 years, educating children on how to stay safe in our community.

Detective Sergeant Rohan Smith has been a police officer for more than 27 years, and has spent the last five in ACT Policing providing the local community with a diverse range of domestic and international policing experience.

All members of the community are important to ACT Policing but there are some communities that are considered vulnerable in regards to their ability to report crime or who experience higher levels of harassment including criminal behaviour. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community is one such community.

I have been a member of the Community Safety Team for the last two years and a Multicultural Liaison Officer for the majority of that time.

Since commencing the role of Chief Police Officer for the ACT in November 2016, I’ve made the rounds to many areas of ACT Policing; meeting our officers and learning about the work they do. I can say with certainty – you’re in good hands.

I consider myself very fortunate for the community policing experiences I have had in the Australian Federal Police; not only here in Canberra where I grew up, but also abroad in Christmas Island and Cyprus.    

Driving motor vehicles is such an ingrained part of society that we could scarcely function without them. What people so often don’t realise, or forget, is that driving a 2-tonne metal box on a road can be dangerous, even deadly if it all goes wrong.

I’ve been very fortunate in my career to have experienced a variety of police roles around the world, each of these having an investigative focus; domestically, nationally and internationally. As Detective Acting Superintendent of ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations, one of my priorities is to target the manufacturers and the dealers of illicit drugs in the ACT: the traffickers that prey on the vulnerable and don’t care about the harm they cause.
