1000 ACT bikes registered on Bikelinc

Canberra cyclists have demonstrated the importance of their bikes, with more than 1000 local bikes registered on the Bikelinc database since its ACT launch three months ago.

The free Bikelinc Australia platform, which enables cyclists to store images and details of their bike in a secure and easily searchable database, was launched in November 2020.

Since the launch, a bike has been registered, on average every 20 minutes, which is 75 bikes per day, and the 1000th bike was registered on Wednesday, 3 February 2021.

The ACT is the second jurisdiction to make Bikelinc available, which began in 2019 as a joint initiative between Crime Stoppers and Police in Western Australia.

Detective Acting Superintendent, ACT Policing Operations Stephen Ladd said the program was off to a good start, and he hoped many more cyclists would sign up.

“The success of the Bikelinc program in its first three months has been most encouraging,” Detective Acting Superintendent Ladd said.

“To know that 1000 bikes are now listed on a database that will help police to return them quickly to their owner if they’re stolen is a great start, but that number needs to keep growing.

“I hope that as more cyclists provide the details of their bikes to Bikelinc that would-be bike thieves will also be deterred, as a prospective buyer of a bike can use Bikelinc to determine if a bike has been reported lost or stolen.

Visit the Bikelinc website now to register your bike’s details.
