17 year old driver detected at 136kmh

Speeding 5

A 17-year-old girl will lose her licence for speeding, after she was detected by police driving at 136km/h on the Majura Parkway about 11.13pm yesterday, Saturday, 24 April 2021.

When an ACT Road Policing officer stopped the driver, a licence check revealed she had only been issued her licence in February 2021, just over two months ago.

The driver will be fined $700 for speeding between 30 and 45km/h above the 100km/h limit, and as double demerit points are in place, she will receive 8 demerit points. As a Provisional licence-holder this will result in the loss of her licence.

ACT Policing is reminding motorists that double demerit penalties are in effect until midnight Monday night 26 April 2021.

During this period all speeding, seatbelt, riding without a helmet and mobile phone offences attract double the usual number of demerit points and all other traffic offences attract an additional demerit point.
