18-year-olds on bail arrested for aggravated burglary

ACT Policing have arrested two 18-year-old men after receiving reports of an aggravated burglary in a Belconnen shopping complex.

About 4.30am this morning (Saturday, 8 April 2023) officers responded to reports of an active burglary at an electronics store.

During the burglary, one man allegedly threatened local security guards with a handgun.

Upon arrival, the officers engaged in a short foot pursuit with one man being arrested on a street nearby. This man was carrying a large bag containing more than 50 iPhones and tablets. He also allegedly was carrying a concealed replica firearm.

The second man fled the scene in a SUV. Officers were able to track down the SUV and arrested the second 18-year-old in Amaroo a short time later.

Both men were on bail for other offences at the time of this incident.

They are set to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today where they will be charged with aggravated burglary and possession of firearms.
