2022 ACT road toll reaches nine

The third fatality in 48 hours has seen the ACT road toll for 2022 reach nine.  

About 9.20pm Saturday (21 May 2022) ACT Policing received reports of a motorcycle collision on Bugden Avenue, Gowrie.

ACT Road Policing officers and ACT Ambulance Service paramedics attended the scene and upon arrival confirmed the rider of the motorcycle had sustained life threatening injuries.

Initial investigations revealed the motorcyclist was travelling on Bugden Avenue towards Ashley Drive. He failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a bus stop signpost.  The 53-year-old man from Gowrie suffered a serious head injury and died later at the Canberra Hospital.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Crash Team is conducting a full investigation into the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured dash-cam footage of it is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.  Quote reference number 7115743.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
