ACT Policing arrest prolific property offender

ACT Policing yesterday arrested a 33-year-old Bonython man for stealing a motor vehicle and associated offences. The man is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 12 September 2020).

On Tuesday, 8 September and Friday, 11 September, police received reports that vehicles had been broken into in Acton and Chifley respectively.

About 3pm on Friday, 11 September, police located a stolen white Toyota Camry outside a residence in Ngunnawal, and arrested the 33-year-old man inside the residence a short time later.

A subsequent examination of the Camry located a large number of items reported as having been stolen from vehicles around Canberra.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on charges including:

  • Driving a Motor Vehicle without consent (2 counts)
  • Unlicenced Driving (2 counts)
  • Theft
  • Damage Property (2 counts)
  • Number Plate Not Properly Issued

Bail will be opposed. Investigations are continuing into other incidents and police anticipate laying numerous additional charges against the man in the coming days.
