ACT Policing COVID-19 compliance checks continue

ACT Policing COVID-19 compliance checks have continued this week with 15 fines issued and one charge laid in the past seven days for breaching health directions.

On Wednesday, 21 July 2021 police issued a fine to a 19-year-old Garran woman after she returned to the ACT from North Sydney on 14 July 2021 without obtaining an exemption or adhering to quarantine requirements.

The woman has since received an exemption from ACT Health, and is completing the required isolation period at home.

After repeated refusals to check in at a City retailer on Friday (16 July 2021), a 34-year-old man was arrested and later bailed to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court charged with using offensive language in a public place and failing to comply with a direction of the Chief Health Officer.

In a separate incident, 14 university students were each issued $1000 fines for breaching health directions. Note: ACT Policing incorrectly reported 13 fines were issued to students last Saturday (17 July 2021). Fines were issued to 14 students.

The students remain in isolation at their university residences.

Compliance activity has focused on people completing home quarantine and stay at home directions, and construction site visits with almost 300 in-person compliance checks carried out in the past week and numerous construction sites visited.

Additionally, from Friday 16 July to Thursday 22 July 2021, police have stopped almost 1500 drivers to speak with them about the current health orders.

And ACT Policing received 13 reports of non-compliance from the community in the past week, all of which were determined to be minor breaches, and required no further action once resolved.
