ACT Policing member before court

UPDATE

An ACT Policing sworn member faced the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (18 February 2017) charged with common assault.

About 11pm yesterday (17 February 2017), police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Bruce and took a male into custody and transported him to the ACT Watch House. He was identified as an off-duty sworn ACT Policing member. The family violence response framework was applied and the man was charged with common assault and faced the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

Chief Police Officer for the ACT Justine Saunders said that this matter has been referred to AFP Professional Standards and will be treated extremely seriously.

“An incident involving our own member is very concerning.  It doesn’t matter who you are, or what role you have in the community any form of violence is not tolerated by ACT Policing.”

“As the matter is now before court, I will be unable to comment further.”
