Alleged disqualified driver to face court

Facing court

ACT Policing twice detected a 31-year-old Conder man driving while disqualified on the weekend.

About 10.30pm on Friday, 1 May 2020, police from Tuggeranong station spoke with the man who they had seen driving a silver-coloured Ford Falcon in Conder. The driver did not have a licence, having had it suspended in October 2018, and police will allege he subsequently returned a positive reading to a roadside drug screening test.

The man was taken to City Police Station where he underwent oral fluid analysis, and returned a positive reading to a prescribed drug.

The man was granted conditional watch house bail to appear in court on 15 June 2020 on charges of driving while disqualified and drug driving.

About 10.37pm on Sunday, 3 May 2020, police from Tuggeranong station saw the same silver-coloured Ford Falcon being driven at speed on Drakeford Drive, Greenway. The Falcon subsequently accelerated away from the police vehicle at speeds in excess of 150 kilometres per hour before turning into Woodcock Drive, Gordon.

About 10.40pm police observed the Falcon in a driveway in Conder, and spoke with the man at the residence. The man denied he had been driving the vehicle. Police will allege the man refused to undertake a roadside screening test for drugs.

Police then viewed CCTV footage from a nearby property, which showed the man exit the driver’s seat of the vehicle in the driveway prior to police arriving.

The man was taken to the Regional Watch House, and police will further allege he refused to provide an oral fluid sample and still claimed he had need been driving the vehicle.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, 4 May 2020) charged with refusing to undergo a screening test, refusing to provide an oral fluid sample and driving while disqualified.
