Disqualified driver to face court following pursuit

ACT Policing arrested a 42-year-old Campbell man after leading police on a chase through a number of Tuggeranong suburbs earlier this morning (Friday, December 5).

About 2.20am police attempted to stop the driver of a red Honda Civic on Johnson Drive, Calwell.

Police activated emergency lights and siren however the driver failed to stop and accelerated away from police, through the suburbs of Calwell, Theodore, Isabella Plains, and Gowrie.

The driver turned into a cul-de-sac in Gowrie, where he got out of the car and ran away. A female got out of the passenger side and waited for police.

The man jumped over a fence into a rear yard where he hid from police. After 20 minutes of searching, police located the driver hiding between the fence and a telegraph pole. He was arrested and taken into custody.

The man is expected to be charged with a range of traffic offences including driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possessing a drug of dependence.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
