Disqualified driver on incorrect side of road to face court

Facing Court

A 25-year-old disqualified driver will face court today (Monday 3 May 2021) on numerous driving offences after motorists took evasive action to avoid colliding with a vehicle on the incorrect side of the road.

About 10am yesterday, police observed a Holden travelling on the incorrect side of the road at the intersection of Spofforth Street and Drake Brockman Drive in Holt.

It is alleged the car nearly collided with another vehicle before travelling up the gutter and onto a dirt path. There were three people walking on the path when they had to jump from the path to avoid being struck by the Holden.

The Holden returned to the roadway about 500 metres later and continued travelling easterly on Drake Brockman Drive overtaking cars by moving to the incorrect side of the road.

It is alleged the man drove through a number of Scullin Streets before police activated emergency lights where the man failed to stop before turning on the Chewings Street in Page.

Police observed the car on the incorrect side of the road travelling directly at them. The driver then moved back to the correct side of the road before turning onto Belconnen Way on the incorrect side of the road.

Two members of the public driving on Belconnen Way took evasive action by driving onto the centre median strip to avoid being struck by the Holden.

It is alleged the car was driven at high speeds through Hawker before police located the vehicle on Springvale Drive near the intersection with Murranji Street where a member of the public advised the driver had run towards Epenarra Close.

The man located and placed under arrest before being taken to the City Police Station.

He will face court on eight charges including fail to stop for police, driving with a prescribed drug in oral fluid, drive while disqualified and dangerous driving.
