Double trouble for high range drink driver

A 39-year-old NSW learner driver will face the ACT Magistrates Court in June after he was charged with high range drink driving twice early this morning (Saturday, 28 May 2022).  

At about 3.00am a Nicholls man and his Mercedes C200 were located at a service station in Gungahlin where police discovered that he was driving on a suspended NSW learner licence.   

Officers conducted a roadside breath screening test, which returned a result of 0.209 - classifying him as a high range drink driver.  

He was issued an ACT suspension notice, further removing his right to drive in Canberra for another 90 days and released from custody.  

Just one hour later at about 4.00am, ACT Policing officers sighted the same vehicle on Gundaroo Drive.  

The 39-year-old suspended learner driver was again behind the wheel and police conducted a second roadside breath screening test, which returned a result of 0.195.  

The man was then arrested and brought back to the ACT Watch House for repeated offences. 

The man has been charged with two counts of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and two counts of driving while his right to drive was suspended.  

ACT Policing urges Canberrans to drink or drive – not both.
