Drivers reminded to secure loads

As Canberrans begin the weekend moving house, conducting home improvements and transporting bulky goods, ACT Policing is reminding all drivers that loads must be safely secured.

About 8.10am yesterday morning (Friday, 24 June 2022) Road Policing officers in Belconnen pulled over a white Commodore station wagon that had building materials protruding from both the passenger’s window and the tailgate of the vehicle.

The driver was reminded of the requirements to properly secure loads and was issued a $598 fine and one demerit point.

Drivers are reminded it is an offence to:

  • not properly secure a load;
  • to have a load that causes the vehicle to be unstable;
  • or to have a load that projects from a vehicle in a way that is likely to injure a person, obstruct the path of another driver or damage a vehicle.

If needing to move bulky goods, many hardware stores have free trailer rental or drivers should consider renting a ute or van.
