Gilmore man caught drink driving twice in the same morning

A 25-year-old unlicenced Gilmore man has been charged with multiple offences following him being detected drink driving twice in the same morning.

About 3.10am this morning (Sunday, 24 October 2021) police were conducting mobile patrols in Weston when a 25-year-old unlicenced Gilmore man driving a Holden Commodore was stopped.

The driver underwent a breath screening test which was positive. He was taken into custody and conveyed to Woden Police Station for breath analysis. The result of the analysis was 0.189 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.

The driver was served with immediate suspension notice, suspending his right to drive for 90 days.

He was released from custody and departed Woden Police Station as the passenger of a rideshare vehicle.

About 4.50am this morning, police sighted the Holden Commodore from the earlier incident. Police attempted to stop the driver, however he drove away at high speed. About 5.20am, police located the Holden Commodore travelling in Gilmore where the vehicle came to a stop and the driver fled on foot. His vehicle was seized.

About 6.10am this morning, police located the man at his home address in Gilmore.

The man subsequently provided a sample of his breath for analysis and the result of the analysis was 0.159 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath. He was transported to the ACT Watch House where he is expected to be charged with unlicenced driving, drive while suspended, special driver PCA (Level 4) x 2, fail to stop and furious driving.

Police urge drivers to drink or drive, not both. This man’s actions this morning put both himself and other road users at serious risk.
