Illegal campers and vehicles being moved

Media release

ACT Policing, with additional resources from the Australian Federal Police, has begun moving camping equipment and illegally parked vehicles from the Patrick White Lawns adjacent to the National Library of Australia.

On Wednesday (2 February 2022) the National Capital Authority requested ACT Policing enforce legislation prohibiting illegal camping and parking at that location.

ACT Policing engaged with campers on Wednesday afternoon – informing them verbally and via printed material that they were in breach of legislation.

Yesterday (Thursday, 3 February 2022), further audio warnings were made in the area.

This morning, (Friday, 4 February 2022) police have moved into the area and will be requesting camping equipment and vehicles to be moved from the site.

Items that are not moved may be seized by police.

Police are urging those in the area to move their equipment and vehicles when asked to do so.

ACT Policing would like to again confirm that peaceful protesting in the Parliamentary Triangle is permitted, however camping and parking without authority is not.
