A 17-year-old learner driver has been caught speeding and drink driving following a traffic stop on the Monaro Highway.

About 10:30pm Thursday (20 May 2021) officers from the Road Policing team detected a vehicle travelling at 141 km/h in the 90 km/h zone on the Monaro Highway, Fyshwick.

Police stopped the vehicle and the 17-year-old female learner driver from Isabella Plains was transported to Canberra Airport Police Station after returning a positive roadside breath test.

The result of the breath test at the station indicated 0.108 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath. The driver was issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending her licence for three months.

The young woman was released from police custody and will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to exceeding the speed limit and drink driving.

ACT Policing is continuing to target excessive speeding during the month of May and urges drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions.
