Drink Driving

ACT Policing has apprehended a learner motorcyclist after he was caught riding while intoxicated twice in two hours.

About 3.40pm Sunday, 27 September 2020, ACT Policing members observed the 28-year-old learner motorcyclist riding on Belconnen Way with a pillion passenger who was not wearing a helmet.

The man returned a positive roadside breath test and a subsequent breath analysis at Belconnen Police Station returned a result of 0.114 (the legal limit for a learner licence holder is 0.00). The rider’s licence was suspended, and he was released from custody to appear in Court at a later date.

About 5.15pm the same day, Police observed the same motorcyclist proceed through a red light in Belconnen. The man returned another positive roadside breath test and a breath analysis result of 0.117.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on 8 October, 2020 on charges including two counts of drink driving, riding while licence suspended, and ride through a red light.
