Man arrested for burglary and car thefts

ACT Policing yesterday arrested a 38-year-old Amaroo man for several offences including stealing a motor vehicle and burglary. The man is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 7 July 2021).

In recent weeks, ACT Policing has received reports of vehicles being stolen when the vehicles had been left unattended by the drivers.

After an investigation the 38-year-old was identified as a suspect in some of these thefts, and other offences including burglary and driving offences.

About 11.35pm yesterday (6 July 2021) ACT Policing Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team located the man in Gungahlin. He attempted to flee on foot, but police arrested him a few minutes later.

The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on charges including:

  • Unlicenced Driver
  • Drive Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Burglary
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Breach of Good Behaviour Obligations
  • Unlawful Possession of Stolen Property

Bail will be opposed. Investigations are continuing into other incidents and police anticipate laying numerous additional charges against the man in the coming days.
