Man charged after disturbance at Majura

ACT Policing arrested a man after raising public alarm at Brindabella Business park yesterday afternoon (Friday, 19 September).

About 2.55pm, a 43-year-old Farrer man was driving a red coloured Nissan Navarra northbound along Brindabella Circuit when he proceeded through a roundabout adjacent to the car park of a building in Brindabella Park.

The man lost control of his vehicle and crashed through two metallic bollards in front of the entrance to the building.

He walked into the building with knives strapped to his body, holding a bag containing two Molotov cocktails and threatening staff with a wooden pick handle.

When police arrived on scene, the man walked towards them igniting the Molotov cocktail and throwing it at one of the officers covering his right leg in flames. The police officer ran to a grass area and was assisted by the public to extinguish the flames.

The man picked up the Molotov cocktail and threw it at another police officer narrowly missing him. Police then discharged a Taser which had immediate effect.

The man was placed under arrest and transported to the ACT Watch House.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with Acts of endangering life – throwing an inflammable substance, Act to cause public alarm and possess knife without reasonable excuse.
