Man charged with sexual assault and other offences

Charged

A 22-year-old Kambah man has been charged with sexual assault and other offences following an incident in July 2022.

The 22-year-old man arranged to meet with another man via a dating app and attended that man’s home in Phillip on the evening of 24 July 2022. The pair engaged in consensual sexual intercourse on that evening, and again on the next day.

Police will allege that on the night of Thursday, 28 July 2022, the 22-year-old returned to the Phillip residence and administered a substance to the other man, rendering him unconscious, then sexually assaulted him, stole property from the man’s residence, and erased the man’s phone before leaving.

The victim reported the incident to police the following day.

ACT Policing Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) members executed a search warrant on a Kambah residence on Saturday, 30 July 2022 and located property allegedly stolen from the victim.

On Sunday, 31 July 2022, police executed a search warrant on the 22-year-old man’s phone and vehicle. The man was subsequently placed under arrest.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 1 August 2022) charged with sexual assault without consent, burglary and theft.

The SACAT investigation into this incident is continuing, with a view to determining if other people were involved and if any other offences were committed. Anyone with any information about this matter is urged to contact ACT Policing and quote case number 7173487.
