Man charged with sexual assault of sex worker

Charged

A 34-year-old Calwell man has been charged with sexual assault and aggravated robbery following an incident in a unit in the City on the 25th of March.

In late March 2022, police were contacted by a sex worker who alleged a client had sexually assaulted her at knifepoint and stole a sum of cash when he attended her residence.

ACT Policing’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) conducted an investigation and last night (Monday, 4 April 2022) executed a search warrant at a residence in Calwell.

The 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and sexual assault in the third degree.

Officer in Charge of SACAT, Detective Inspector Callum Hughes wants to encourage any victim of sexual assault to come forward when they are comfortable to do so.

“Police recognise the courage that is required to report your experience of assault and want to reassure victims that we take all matters seriously,” Detective Inspector Hughes said.

“Support services are offered to all victims and interpreters can be arranged if English is not your first language.”

If you have been the victim of sexual violence, you may contact ACT Policing on 131 444, attend a police station or report historical matters online through the ACT Policing website.
