Man charged with sexual offences against children

A 72-year-old Palmerston man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 28 January 2023) following his arrest and charging yesterday with multiple sexual offences against children.

Earlier this month, a mother and her two daughters provided statements to police alleging sexual assault activity against the daughters by a man known to them through their religious group. The alleged offending occurred in 2022 and 2023.

Officers from the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team commenced an investigation and yesterday a 72-year-old Palmerston man was arrested at his residence and charged.

He faces four counts of act of indecency with a young person (under 16 years), one count of act of indecency with a young person (under 10 years) and two counts of assault.

Police are urging any victims of sexual assault, including anyone who is aware of assault matters, to report these criminal activities.

You can also submit an online report for historical sexual assault for incidents that occurred more than six months ago.
