Man in custody after Wanniassa homicide

UPDATE: ACT Policing has charged the 45-year-old Symonston with murder and he will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, March 12).

ACT Policing has taken a 45-year-old Symonston man into custody following a suspicious death of a man in Wanniassa yesterday (Tuesday, March 10).

About 3pm today (Wednesday, March 11), investigations led police to an address in O’Connor and the man came into police custody without incident. He was taken to the ACT Watch House and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The man is considered a suspect in the homicide investigation, which commenced after a deceased 61-year-old man was located at a home on McWhae Circuit about 7.05pm yesterday. A 68-year-old invalid woman was located in a bedroom of the home, uninjured. ACT Ambulance Service attended and conveyed the woman to hospital for observation.

ACT Policing is continuing investigations on site, including an evidence search in the areas surrounding the home. Members from ACT Policing, AFP Search and Rescue and SES are conducting line searches.

AFP Forensics Services crime scene investigators are examining the scene and have taken a number of items as evidence.

Police investigations are ongoing.
