Man dies; caught in flood waters

ACT Policing is investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident at Cotter Road, Coree in which a 37-year-old Kambah man has died.

About 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday, 5 June 2016) police responded to an incident at the Cotter Dam where a vehicle was discovered, caught in the flooding water near the river crossing.

A joint rescue effort was conducted involving AFP SRG Maritime (Water Police), ACT State Emergency Services Agency, ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue.

Due to the severe weather conditions, fast-rising and moving water, the man was unable to be rescued.

Police are urging the public to avoid flood prone roads and areas. Motorists are also strongly urged to obey all road safety warnings.
