Police have arrested a 26-year-old Ainslie man in relation to two Northside burglaries on Tuesday (18 July 2017).

About 2:40am on Tuesday, police were called to a burglary at Florey Newsagency. Police were then called to a second burglary at about 3:50am at IGA Evatt. Cigarettes, tobacco products and a sum of cash were stolen from both premises. CCTV footage from IGA Evatt showed a male and a female forcing entry to the store.

About 4:00am that morning, police were called to a single vehicle collision on Owen Dixon Drive, Spence. The occupants of the collision had fled on foot prior to police arrival, both sustaining injuries in the collision and presenting to hospital at a later time. The vehicle was found to contain property stolen from the two burglaries, and was later linked to the 26-year-old Ainslie man.

ACT Policing’s Targeting Team, targeting known and recidivist offenders, took carriage of the investigation and yesterday (20 July) attended a residence in Ainslie, arresting the man.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (21 July) charged with burglary, intent to commit aggravated burglary and receiving stolen property.

Police will oppose bail.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a collision about 4:00am on Tuesday on Owen Dixon Drive, Spence to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the ACT Crime Stoppers website. Please provide reference 6125341.
