Man to face court on drug manufacturing charge
A 19-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with Manufacturing a Controlled Drug.
About 8pm on Tuesday, 30 October 2018, ACT Policing, along with ACT Fire & Rescue and ACT Ambulance Service, responded to reports of an explosion at the University of Canberra residences.
Following the incident, a man was transported to hospital and a section of the residences was evacuated.
ACT Criminal Investigations, AFP Forensics and AFP Bomb Response also attended.
Following an examination of the scene, police determined that the room was being used as a clandestine laboratory. Investigators recovered drug related paraphernalia from the scene, including quantities of chemicals as well as a notebook with the chemical formula for MDMA.
The 19-year-old man was arrested at hospital and subsequently charged with one count of Manufacturing a Controlled Drug.
The scene has been contained, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
