Man to face court following assault

ACT Policing has charged a 31-year-old Narrabundah man following a ‘coward punch’ assault that occurred in Phillip yesterday (Tuesday, 25 April).

Around 5.40pm, the male offender was evicted from the Hellenic Club by security staff.  The offender left the club and while crossing Matilda Street assaulted a male (not known to the offender) who was crossing the road in the opposite direction.

The ‘coward punch’ caused the victim to fall resulting in him hitting his head on the bitumen and suffering facial injuries.

Police located the offender and he was conveyed to the City Watch House. He was released on bail and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on 12 May facing a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
