Man to face court for multiple property offences

Charged with robbery

ACT Policing last night (Thursday, 9 June 2022) arrested a 19-year-old Banks man following a series of aggravated robberies and associated property offences in May 2022.

Police will allege that early on the morning of Saturday 21 May 2022, the man was one of three people who entered a Banks residence and stole keys and a wallet before also stealing a white Ford Ranger from the driveway.

Cards from the stolen wallet were subsequently used to make purchases in Phillip, Nicholls and Murrumbateman (NSW).

Police will also allege the white Ford Ranger was then used in other aggravated robberies and attempted aggravated robberies in Isaacs, Phillip and Weston. During these incidents, weapons were produced by offenders and the drivers of two vehicles were threatened and pursued by the Ranger before they made their way to the Woden Police Station seeking safety.

It will be further alleged that the vehicle and a weapon were used about 4.30am that day in a robbery where a taxi was stolen in Duffy after the driver was threatened.

The Ford Ranger was intercepted in Wagga Wagga (NSW) later that morning, and a man was arrested.

On Thursday 9 June 2022, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Banks, and later arrested the 19-year-old who was conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with two counts of aggravated robbery with offensive weapon, attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary with intent to commit theft, joint commission take motor vehicle without permission, and obtaining property by deception.
