Man faces 37 charges for multiple offences

Charged

A 45-year-old Crace man will face the ACT Magistrates court today (Saturday, 15 October 2022) after he was charged with 37 offences relating to multiple burglaries over the past month.

ACT Policing has responded to an increase of commercial and residential burglaries targeting private residences and a range of businesses including massage parlors, fast food outlets, retail outlets, restaurants, bars, petrol stations, trade businesses, libraries, supermarkets and cafes.

These burglaries and thefts have been committed across Canberra including in Tuggeranong, Kingston, Forrest, Dickson, Downer, Barton, Belconnen, Mitchell, Fyshwick and Gungahlin.

About 3.45pm yesterday (Friday, 14 October 2022) officers located the man in Watson before placing him under arrest and later executing a search warrant at his residence in Crace where clothing, masks, tools and cash were seized.

The man has been charged with 21 counts of aggravated burglary, 12 counts of theft and 4 counts of attempted burglary.

Detective Sergeant Jason Dziubinski of ACT Policing’s Proactive Intervention & Diversion Team wanted to remind the community, that we take all reports of theft and burglaries seriously.

“While we might not be able to attend every burglary, we do have systems in place to analayse, investigate and respond to these crimes,” Detective Sergeant Dziubinski said.

“I know it can be frustrating when police are triaged to other emergencies, but we ask the community to continue to report thefts and burglaries to assist police in responding to and addressing this crime type.”

Anyone who has information about burglaries or the sale of stolen property is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
