Man facing court for musical instrument burglary and drug possession

A 33-year-old Watson man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday 31 December 2021) after ACT Policing arrested him on Thursday for allegedly committing a burglary earlier that morning.

Between 12.15am and 9am Thursday, a shed in a Watson back yard was broken into and items were stolen, including three violins, a banjo, a banjola, a guitar and a computer.

About 12.30pm, police received a report from the owner of the stolen property that a man had been observed with two of the stolen items nearby.

Officers acting on this report located the man in Watson about 3.30pm, and arrested him a short time later.

Subsequent searches located 2 zip lock bags containing a substance suspected of being methylamphetamine in the man’s wallet, and some of the stolen property in the man’s residence.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with burglary, possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse, possessing a drug of dependence and breach of parole.
