Operation Phoenix dismantles drug dealers across the ACT

ACT Policing officers working as part of Operation Phoennix have seized a quantity of methylamphetamine (ice), with an estimated street value of over $550,000.
During the operation, four people were arrested in relation to drug and property offences. Another four persons will be summonsed to appear before court in relation to drug offences at a later date.

Operation Phoennix commenced on 8 October 2015 with ACT Policing Criminal Investigations detectives conducting 29 search warrants and seven emergency searches across the ACT over seven days. During one search warrant an operating clandestine laboratory was discovered. 

Others items seized during the operation included illicit drugs such as heroin, cocaine, cannabis, MDMA tablets, three replica firearms and four conducted energy weapons (tasers). A house, car and in excess of $179,000 was also restrained by police as proceeds of crime.

Detective Senior Constable John Callaghan from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations said Operation Phoennix had prevented a significant quantity of illicit drugs from reaching the Canberra community.

“The impacts of methamphetamine on communities are well documented and ACT Policing is committed to targeting this illicit drug trade,” Detective Senior Constable Callaghan said.

“Drug traffickers show no regard for the wellbeing of our community. They profit from the vulnerabilities of others and destroy lives and families.”

“We encourage the community to join us in our efforts against this trade by providing us with any information regarding the illicit drug trade that may assist our investigations.”
