Police call for more witnesses for homicide investigation

Can You Help

ACT Policing is appealing to the public to assist in its investigation into the death of a man in Weston on Sunday, 27 September 2020.

Officers were called to the skate park on Dillon Close about 1am yesterday. Two people received stab wounds during a fight - an 18-year-old man who died at the scene and a 16-year-old boy who was taken to hospital.

Criminal Investigations detectives yesterday assessed the crime scene. They were later assisted by AFP Search and Rescue and the ACT State Emergency Service who conducted a search of the surrounding area for further evidence.

Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said police were appealing to speak to anyone who may have information about what happened.

“We have spoken to several people who were at the skate park at the time of the fight,” Detective Superintendent Moller said.

“We know there were about 12 people there, so should you have been involved in the fight, now is the time to talk to police.

“I recognise this death is distressing for our community, and there may be families who are concerned about their son’s or daughter’s possible involvement.

“If you think someone in your family or your friend was involved the best thing to do is to come to us. Don’t wait for us to knock on your door.

“We are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area. This means we will soon have pictures of the cars and all the people who were there.”

Police are currently forensically examining a white Toyota car for fingerprints and DNA, along with other evidence found at the scene.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6638633. Information can be provided anonymously.
