Police catch two motorcyclists for high-range speeding offences

Two motorcycle riders have received significant fines after they were detected riding well in excess of the speed limit on the weekend.

About 10.25pm on Saturday (21 May 2022) ACT Policing officers detected two riders travelling more than 45 km/h over the posted speed limit in the 80-km/h zone on Southern Cross Drive, Florey.

One of the riders held an ACT learner rider licence and the other held a full NSW rider licence. Both riders were issued traffic infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, which incurs a penalty of $1841.00 and 6 demerit points each.

When spoken to by the Police officer one of the riders was aware there had been a road fatality the previous evening in the Canberra.

ACT Policing is reminding all road users that police will be out in force conducting speed enforcement operations in an effort to keep our roads safe.Sadly, the ACT road toll for the year currently stands at 9.
