Police investigate death in Phillip

ACT Policing is investigating a suspicious death following a shooting in Phillip overnight.

Police responded to reports of gun shots at Mansfield Place about 11.45pm yesterday (Thursday, 10 June 2021). ACT Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the scene and assessed a man before transporting to him hospital.

A 48-year-old man from Phillip has later died in hospital. No one else was injured in the incident.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has continued this morning.

Initial investigations indicate there was one shot fired. AFP Forensics Crime Scene Investigators are undertaking a thorough examination of the crime scene.

Criminal Investigations, Detective Inspector Marcus Boorman said a woman was home with the man at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

“Detectives are investigating the circumstances of this incident; however, at this time the reason for the attack is yet to be established,” Detective Inspector Boorman said.

“Police have identified evidence from the scene, all of which will be forensically examined.

“We’ve spoken to a number of witnesses in the area and would encourage anyone who has information about the shooting to come forward to police.”
