Police seek witnesses to distribution of COVID 19 letters

COVID-19

ACT Policing is seeking information about the recent distribution of letters that make false claims about COVID-19.

The letters were distributed to residences in Downer on Friday, 25 September 2020. Letters were also later received by residents in Braddon and Holt.

Officer in Charge of ACT Policing's COVID-19 Response Taskforce Detective Superintendent Stephen Turnbull said the letters were being forensically examined for fingerprints and DNA to identify who may be responsible for spreading misinformation.

“We are calling for any witnesses who may have observed a person in Downer, Braddon or Holt distributing these COVID-19 letters,” Detective Superintendent Turnbull said.

“We are urging residents of these suburbs to check their CCTV or dash-cam footage for any video that may assist in the investigation.

“If members of the public have any concerns regarding COVID-19, the ACT Government has a dedicated website containing extensive information and a COVID-19 hotline (6207 7244).”

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6638369. Information can be provided anonymously.
