Police seeking witnesses to Southside thefts

Seeking witnesses

ACT Policing is seeking dashcam or CCTV footage of three teen boys walking throughout Banks, Conder, Gowrie and Chisholm between 1.00am and 7.30am this morning (5 May 2022).

Police want to speak with the boys in relation to a burglary in Banks as well as attempts to break into a number of vehicles in nearby suburbs.

The boys, believed to be in the age range of 14-to-16 years old were wearing the below:

·         Boy 1: Black hooded jumper, black pants and Nike shoes

·         Boy 2: Pink cap with a blonde rats tail and red jumper

·         Boy 3: Red jumper and tracksuit pants.

The boys are believed to have entered a Banks premises through the back door, before taking cash and leaving the property damaged.

It was later reported that three men were spotted attempting to steal vehicles a short distance away in Conder, Gowrie and Chisholm.

Police want to take this opportunity to remind Canberrans to not leave their homes unlocked and to not leave vehicles unattended to air out and warm up as we enter these colder months.

Acting Superintendent Rod Anderson said that thefts in the colder months weren't uncommon.

“While we know many Canberrans are tempted to warm up their vehicles before heading to work, doing so provides a prime opportunity for theft”, A/Supt Anderson said.

“Additionally, airing out your homes while going on morning walks, or heading to work means that your property is unsecure. We all need to do our part in minimising the opportunity for theft.”

Anyone who can assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.  Please quote 7101374.
