Police urge drivers and riders to slow down

slow down canberra

ACT Policing’s Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman has today reminded Canberra drivers and riders of the need to slow down and drive to the speed limits.

The warning comes after a 22-year-old male motorcycle rider was detected by police travelling at 146km/h in a 90km/h speed zone on William Hovell Drive.

The learner rider was fined $1831 and incurred six demerit points.

“Riding or driving at these speeds is dangerous and irresponsible,” Station Sergeant Boorman said.

“There are always kangaroos and wildlife wandering onto our roads, not to mention other vehicles and road users.”

“At those speeds you aren’t going to have time to react.”

“Any crash at high speed is likely to result in significant injuries or death.”

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility – those who choose to speed are not only gambling with their lives but also the lives of others.”
