ACT Policing is inviting members of the Gungahlin community to meet for a cuppa and a chat with their local police officers when the popular Coffee with a Cop program returns this Friday morning (19 March, 2021).

Hosted at Pixie and Bear Café in Casey Market Town from 9am until 11am, this free event encourages members of the community to drop in and speak to police officers from Gungahlin, Road Policing and Community Safety about what’s going on in their area and ask any questions they may have. Everyone is invited to attend, there are no speeches or agenda and no need to book.

The opportunity for community members to build relationships with their local police officers in a relaxed setting proved popular in a 2019 trial by ACT Policing, but plans to hold further events in 2020 were suspended due to COVID-19.

Officer in Charge of Gungahlin Police Station, Inspector Rachel Hutka said she is excited that the program is returning, this time in the Gungahlin area.

“Unfortunately many people’s engagement with police only comes when a crime has been committed, so I’m delighted that the Gungahlin community will have this chance to engage with officers in a relaxed environment,” Inspector Hutka said.

Coffee with a Cop gives people the chance to meet their local police in a more casual environment to discuss what’s going on in their neighbourhood, ask their police or law-related questions, or just chat about what’s happening in their community.

“I’d like to thank Pixie and Bear Café for their support of this important and worthwhile ACT Policing initiative.

“I encourage anyone with questions about police, policing, or the law to come down to Pixie and Bear Café on Friday morning, grab a free coffee and have a Coffee with a Cop.”
