Reckless comments cause serious alarm

ACT Policing responded to two separate incidents at GIO Stadium Canberra last night (Friday, 3 June 2016) where persons made false statements causing alarm.

The patrons were stopped by security at entry gates, when it was stated that they were carrying a weapon. On both occasions, stadium protocol was followed which resulted in the men being denied entry and interviewed by police.

Superintendent Cath Grassick stated “Whilst the claims were a hoax and the comments were made in jest, the alarm caused is treated extremely seriously.”

“Although the people involved were remorseful and understood the stupidity of their actions, Criminal Cautions were issued.”

The public is reminded that incidents of this nature are taken very seriously and false claims will not be tolerated.

If you notice any suspicious activity or behavior at an event, seek the event security personnel or call police on 131 444.
