Second road fatality for 2023 in Watson

The ACT has recorded its second road fatality for 2023, after a single-vehicle collision in Watson this morning (21 February 2023). 

About 2.45am, a VW Passat was being driven north on Antill Street, when the driver lost control for unknown reasons and the car collided with a tree, incurring considerable front-end damage, before coming to rest in the front yard of a residence. 

When first responders arrived at the scene, the driver – a 44-year-old man – was deceased. There were no other occupants of the vehicle. 

An enquiry into the circumstance surrounding the collision, including the owner of the vehicle, is underway. 

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash-cam footage of Antill Street in Watson or Hackett around the time of the incident. Similarly, any residents in the area with CCTV footage that captured the vehicle are urged to come forward.

ACT Policing’s Major Collision Team will prepare a report for the Coroner.
