A P-plate driver caught driving double the speed limit has incurred more than $2200 in fines following an incident early this morning.

About 12.30am today (Saturday, 29 October 2022) a silver Toyota Corolla was detected by Road Policing officers travelling at 121km/h in a 60km/h zone in Mitchell.

The car was pulled over and the 17-year-old driver produced a provisional licence. The vehicle also contained four passengers and was not displaying p-plates.

The driver received the following fines:
•    Exceed speed by more than 45km/h (non-school zone) - $1841 and 6 demerit points
•    Not display P-plate - $208
•    Contravene conditions of driver licence - $208

As a result of his accumulated demerit points his licence will also be suspended for three months.

With the ACT road toll for 2022 standing at 18 lives lost, ACT Policing is continuing to urge all drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions.
