Three people arrested overnight to face court today

Three people arrested overnight (Friday-Saturday, 14-15 April 2023) will face the ACT Magistrates Court today on a total of nine charges.

About 10.10pm officers from Operation TORIC directed a white Nissan Tiida to stop in Coniston Street, Hawker. The driver refused to do so, and drove onto the wrong side of the road to evade the officers.

Over the next hour, the vehicle was observed in Maribyrnong Avenue and Ellenborough Street, Kaleen.

About 11.25pm Friday police attended a residence in Lyneham, and confirmed the driver of the Tiida, a 27-year-old Giralang man, was inside. Due to reports suggesting the man may have been in possession of a handgun, Specialist Response Group officers attended to assist with the man’s apprehension.

About 11.50pm the man surrendered to police and was arrested. A 27-year-old Wanniassa woman was also arrested at the scene. Both will face court today; the man charged with failing to stop for police, disqualified driving, refusing to undergo screening tests for drugs and alcohol, and aggravated dangerous driving. The woman will face court in relation to being in breach of bail.

The third arrest was made at a Braddon service station. About 12.30am Saturday, Territory Targeting Team officers on patrol recognised the man, who was walking away from a grey Kia Sportage, as being in breach of parole.

A short time later, police checks revealed the Sportage had been reported stolen on Friday afternoon.

The 47-year-old Braddon man was arrested, and will face court today charged with breach of parole, driving a motor vehicle without consent, and disqualified driving.
