Two men to face court after prison disturbance

Two 23-year-old men will face court following an incident in the Alexander Maconochie Centre in May 2021.

On Wednesday 12 May 2021, ACT Policing, ACT Fire and Rescue and ACT Ambulance responded to a report of detainees causing a disturbance within a remand unit of the Alexander Maconochie Centre. 

The incident lasted several hours, and resulted in extensive damage to the centre. 

Two 23-year-old male detainees were identified and will each face charges of arson, obstructing a territory official, property damage and affray.

One of the men will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, 10 August 2021.

The other man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 24 August 2021.
