Two more arrests by Operation TORIC

ACT Policing’s Operation TORIC has made two more arrests, with a 32-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman to face court today (Saturday, 24 September 2022).

The pair were arrested after investigations into an aggravated burglary in Phillip on 8 September 2022, a car theft from a dealership in Fyshwick on 9 September 2022, and a fuel drive-off on 10 September 2022.

Police located the stolen car, a grey Subaru Liberty, in Canberra City about 9.30pm Friday night (23 September 2022) bearing stolen number plates. The car was seized and towed to a secure police facility.

About 12.05am today the man and woman were located by police and arrested in a Canberra City hotel room.

The man will face charges of driving a motor vehicle without consent, riding in a motor vehicle without consent, attempted aggravated burglary, joint commission taking a motor vehicle without consent, joint commission minor theft, unlicenced driving, use of a number plate not properly issued and unlawful possession of stolen property.

The woman, who was on both bail and a good behaviour order, will answer to charges of joint commission taking a motor vehicle without consent, joint commission minor theft, driving a motor vehicle without consent, use of a number plate not properly issued and driving while licence cancelled.

ACT Policing established Operation TORIC targeting recidivist offenders to address an increase in motor vehicle thefts and associated dangerous driving and other crimes in the ACT.
