Two more Operation TORIC arrests

Another two men will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday, 18 November 2022) after they were arrested by officers attached to ACT Policing’s Operation TORIC yesterday.

The two men were arrested after they were identified driving a Red Mitsubishi FTO that was stolen from Canberra City on 11 November 2022.

The vehicle was used in a variety of driving and property offences, before the men were arrested in Canberra City on Thursday, 17 November 2022.

A 28-year-old Lyons man will answer to charges of failing to stop for police, driving a motor vehicle without consent, aggravated dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, improper use of a motor vehicle, making off without payment, and breach of parole.

A 31-year-old Turner man, who was on previously-granted bail, will face charges of riding in a motor vehicle without consent and making off without payment.

Police are still seeking the red Mitsubishi FTO, which may have ACT number plates YIP08R. Anyone with information about this vehicle’s location is urged not to touch it, and to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website. Information can be given anonymously. Quote reference 7273596.

These apprehensions bring the total number made by Operation TORIC - which targets recidivist offenders to address an increase in motor vehicle thefts and associated dangerous driving and other crimes in the ACT - to 147.
