Two overnight arrests for driving offences

Facing Court

A 37-year-old Kambah man and a 34-year-old Florey woman will both face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday, 7 November 2020) after their arrests arising from separate driving incidents overnight.

The man was arrested after police detected him driving a silver Holden Commodore in excess of 120km/h in a 60km/h zone in Ellenborough Street, Kaleen about 10.55pm.

The man stopped the car in Cossington Street Lyneham and abandoned it on foot, without securing it; which led to it rolling back and damaging the police vehicle. The man was apprehended nearby a short time later.

Police checks revealed the man’s licence had expired in October 2018, and that the car was unregistered, uninsured, and had been fitted with number plates reported as stolen from another vehicle.

The man also recorded a positive indication to a prescribed drug when subjected to Oral Fluid Analysis.

He will face the following charges:

  • Fail To Stop
  • Unlicenced Driver
  • Unregistered Vehicle
  • Uninsured Vehicle
  • Possess Stolen Property
  • Numberplate Not Properly Issued
  • Damage Police Vehicle
  • Drug Driving

The woman was arrested following a separate incident after her silver Toyota Yaris was stopped by police on Streeton Drive, Rivett about 12.25am.

After stopping her vehicle, police were conducting checks on the woman’s identity, when she drove away from the stop.

The woman was located, still in the car, in a driveway in Diselma Place, Rivett a short time later.

She will face charges of failing to stop, using an uninsured and unregistered vehicle and failing to produce a driver’s licence for police.
