Two suspended drivers to face court

Two suspended drivers arrested by ACT Policing on the weekend (3-4 December 2022) will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

About 7.30pm Saturday, police received reports of a Mazda CX-5 that had run multiple red lights on Athllon Drive, Greenway.

Members from Tuggeranong patrol intercepted the vehicle on Athllon Drive, and when the driver stopped on Florence Taylor Street, police checks revealed the driver’s licence had been suspended.

The 31-year-old Gowrie woman, who was on bail, recorded a positive result for alcohol in a roadside test, and was taken for breath analysis at Tuggeranong Police Station, where she recorded a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.140. As her licence had been suspended, she was subject to a zero BAC limit.

Police issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending her right to drive for 90 days. She will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with driving while suspended and drink driving.

About 1.40am Sunday, police directed a Subaru Forester to stop on Southern Cross Drive, Holt. The driver initially slowed the vehicle before accelerating away.

Officers from Belconnen Police Station followed the vehicle until it stopped near the roundabout at the intersection of Southern Cross Drive and Parkwood Road, where two people exited it and attempted to flee on foot.

One of the people, who police will allege was driving the Subaru, was apprehended a short time later. He will face charges in the ACT Magistrates Court today for driving while suspended and failing to stop for police.
