Facing Court

NOTE: This media release has been updated to reflect suppression orders made by the ACT Children’s Court on Tuesday 20 April 2021.

ACT Policing arrested four juveniles last night (Monday 19 April, 2021) after they allegedly stole a car at knife-point.

About 7.50pm last night, ACT Policing officers responded to a report of a disturbance in a northern Canberra suburb and upon arriving were informed that a car had been stolen by three juveniles.

Police will allege that during the theft, a woman was struck twice in the head with a laptop computer, had a knife held to her throat, and was struck by the car as the juveniles drove away. The woman also sustained a wound to her hand.

It is believed the three juveniles met a fourth young person at a nearby bus stop who then drove the car.

About 10.45pm, police received a report that the vehicle had crashed on Fairbairn Avenue, Campbell. The four young people were arrested nearby a short time later.

Three of the juveniles were charged with aggravated robbery in company, ride/drive motor vehicle without consent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possess offensive weapon with intent. Two faced the ACT Children’s Court today, 20 April 2021, and the third will face the ACT Children’s Court on 3 May 2021.

The fourth juvenile faced the ACT Children’s Court today charged with ride/drive motor vehicle without consent and being an unlicenced driver (licence never held).
