ACT Policing are seeking witnesses to an attempted aggravated robbery at the Calwell Club on Sunday (18 December).

About 2.30am, a man entered the Calwell Club on Were Street, Calwell. He proceeded to the front desk of the club holding a weapon and demanded that two females and a security guard get down on the floor.

The first female was forced to the ground and the male offender has attempted to take the second female hostage. Security then approached the offender at which time he ran from the venue.  

Security and a patron at the club then chased after the offender. The patron caught the offender in nearby parkland and a scuffle ensued. During that scuffle the patron has received a number of knife wounds, which resulted in serious injuries.

ACT Ambulance Service attended and the victim was taken to the Canberra Hospital.

ACT Policing’s investigations are ongoing, the male offender is described as 180cm (5’10”) tall and of medium build. He was wearing a balaclava, dark coloured hoodie and light blue jeans.
