Witnesses sought to large brawl in Gungahlin on Saturday night

Can you help

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a significant brawl that resulted in two arrests and multiple injured people.

About 8.25pm on Saturday night (22 April 2023), officers were called to Siren Bar in Gungahlin following reports of a violent disturbance.

Gungahlin police officers initially responded, however the number of people involved, and the continuation of violence led to the attendance of officers from the City, Operation TORIC, Crime Detectives, Road Policing, PACER and the Territory Targeting Team.

Chairs, tables and bottles were used as weapons during the brawl with several people, including uninvolved patrons, sustaining injuries.

Two men were arrested and charged with the indictable offence of affray and are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court in May.

Police would like to speak to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police including anyone who may have mobile phone footage of the incident.

North District’s Detective Superintendent Mick Calatzis said it was disappointing to see police resources being diverted away from other priority jobs.

"We don’t tolerate any type of violence and our officers did a great job in their response and identifying those who we will allege committed these offences.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
